Last weekend we went to Rome, Italy. The first few days were super fun and interesting. By day three I was getting pretty tired of walking and walking and walking and walking all day. By day four I was not happy, and after a visit to the worst museum in the world, the rest of the trip was simply endurance.
Friday, Day 1: Fly to Rome, did a walking tour of Old Rome (Old Rome was the best part of Rome, hands down, and definitely where you should stay if you go there). We saw the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, went into the most luxurious McDonalds in the world (which was awesome), Piazza Navona, watched soccer, met up with friends for a late dinner (like 11pm), wandered the streets until about 1am.
Saturday, Day 2: Spent the day with our friend, Zach, went to the National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, tour of the Roman Forum, tour of the Colosseum (including all the underground stuff and the very top), lots of wandering, watched soccer.
Sunday, Day 3: Went to the Circus Maximus, Palatine Hill, Saint Peter in Chains church, Trajan’s Market, Mausoleum of Hadrian, Ara Pacis, watched soccer, went to Vatican City at night to see the Pope’s study light on.
Monday, Day 4: Tour of the Pantheon, wandered through several other churches in Old Rome, National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, Capitoline Hill Square (where we saw a trash can on fire which was the highlight of my day), Mamertine Prison, Vatican City, St. Peter’s Square, St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican Museum (which was TERRIBLE and deserves a post of its own), Sistine Chapel, watched soccer.
Tuesday, Day 5: Back to Switzerland. Ya!!
